The nautical department includes the bridge and deck personnel and is responsible for the navigation of the ship, the safety of the passengers, the medical department and compliance with maritime regulations. The captain is the highest responsible person in this department and has overall command of the entire ship.

The technical department is headed by the chief engineer and takes care of the operation and maintenance of the propulsion engines, electrical systems, air conditioning and other technical equipment on board. Officers, engineers, technicians and maintenance personnel work here.

The hotel department is headed by the hotel manager and is responsible for guest services, accommodation, catering, entertainment and other hotel areas. Staff in this department include waiters, room stewards, entertainment staff, kitchen staff, bar staff and other staff who look after the well-being of passengers. The hotel department also includes the cruise director. A cruise director is responsible for organising and coordinating the entertainment activities on board a cruise ship. His or her duties include the planning and implementation of shows, musical events and theme nights, as well as the organisation and moderation of various activities.
